The House
Three generations, one bench
Gem Plaza was founded in Jaipur in 1988. The family had already been in the gem trade for thirty years by then, and has been in it for thirty-eight more since. What follows is the part of that story we can document.

The lineage
How the house was built
Seven moments, in order. On a wide screen the sequence moves sideways as you scroll; it reads as a plain list otherwise.
- 1950s
Gyan Chand Dhaddha enters the trade
A collector before he was a jeweller, he turned a lifelong interest in objects, stones and the hands that work them into a profession.

- 1988
The house is founded
Gem Plaza opens in Jaipur, with his sons Suresh and Arun Dhaddha working alongside him.

- 2003
Incorporated as Gem Plaza Private Limited
The business is registered in January 2003 under CIN U36911RJ2003PTC018054, with Suresh and Arun Dhaddha as directors.

The Gyan Museum opens
After their father died in 2004, Suresh and Arun built a museum around his collection — some 2,500 objects spanning 3,000 years, in an interior designed by Paul Mathieu.

- 2010
The third generation joins
The third generation — Sakhil, Akhil and Nikhil Dhaddha — comes into the house, which begins working with international collectors and jewellery brands directly.
- Today
The Sitapura atelier
Ten thousand square feet in the Gem & Jewellery Zone at EPIP, Sitapura, where more than 150 craftspeople and designers carry out every stage of production in house.

- Today
The M.I. Road showroom
Khetan Bhawan, M.I. Road — where the finished work is shown, and where a commission usually begins.

The family
Who runs it
Gem Plaza is run by one family, all of them working in the business. The second generation, Suresh and Arun Dhaddha, were appointed directors at incorporation in 2003. The third generation — Sakhil, Akhil and Nikhil Dhaddha — came into the house from 2010.
- Suresh Kumar DhaddhaDirector since 2003
- Arun Kumar DhaddhaDirector since 2003
- Sakhil DhaddhaDirector since 2010
- Akhil DhaddhaDirector since 2010
- Nikhil DhaddhaThird generation
The founder, Late Mr Gyan Chand Dhaddha, entered the gem and jewellery trade in the 1950s and died in 2004. Sources disagree on his year of birth, so we do not publish one.
How we work
Three things that have not changed
- 01
The work is done here
Design, CAD, wax, casting, setting, enamelling, polishing and quality control all happen at our own atelier in Sitapura. Nothing is sent out and returned under our name.
- 02
The stone comes first
A piece is designed around a stone that has already been chosen, not the other way round. That is slower, and it is why two pieces from the same collection are rarely identical.
- 03
A claim carries its evidence
Where we state a number, a registration or a certification, the source is named on the page. Where we cannot yet substantiate something, we say so instead of writing around it.

The sister institution
The Gyan Museum
When Gyan Chand Dhaddha died in 2004, his sons built a museum around the collection he had spent his life assembling — around 2,500 objects across 3,000 years, in an interior designed by Paul Mathieu. It stands a short drive from the atelier and can be visited on the same appointment.

How old is Gem Plaza and who owns it?
