A private collection shaped by a lifelong passion for art, jewellery and material culture, now open to the public in Jaipur.
The Gyan Museum brings together art objects spanning approximately 3,000 years — from jewellery and silverware to textiles, manuscripts, paintings and decorative arts. It reflects the collecting legacy of Gyan Chand Dhaddha and the family's commitment to preserving and sharing that heritage.
What it is
A Collection of Three Millennia
The Gyan Museum was created around the lifelong collection of Gyan Chand Dhaddha, a Jaipur jeweller, gemmologist and collector. His passion for collecting began in his youth and continued for five decades.
Today, the museum brings together more than 2,500 objects spanning approximately 3,000 years of material culture, including jewellery, silverware, textiles, manuscripts, paintings, decorative arts and personal objects. The museum is a cultural institution in its own right, distinct from Gem Plaza, while remaining part of the family's wider legacy in Jaipur.

The building
Paul Mathieu's interior
The museum is an original Paul Mathieu design, and the building is as much of the visit as the vitrines. The plan is circular, closer to a mantra than a corridor, and the display cases, marble front desk, hand-knotted rug, bronze daybed and Murano glass chandelier were all made for it.
The entrance door has a rock crystal handle. Inside, a monolithic jade Ganesh stands in a high, white, quiet room. A white marble staircase — its proportions borrowed from Rajasthani fort architecture — rises to two curved doors: one to the antiquities, one to the contemporary salon.
